Our 2nd Ied Fitri

Happy Eid Al-Fitr
1437 H

This is our 2nd Ied Al- Fitr together with my husband. Last year, we celebrated our Ied Al- Fitr in Bandung, Indonesia my hometown. Now is our term to celebrate in Riyadh, KSA. We had plan to pray Ied Al- Fitr in Indonesian Embassy Riyadh.

I am happy being a muslim lady who married to a muslim Saudi husband. All of us so excited waiting for Ied Al- Fitr because, this is our 1st time celebrate Ied Al- Fitr here in Riyadh. As you know, many Muslim prepare very well for Ied Al- Fitr, even we have different cultures between Saudi and Indonesia but, I still can see the similarities. Here I will explain the differences and similarities to great Shawal month/ Ied Al- Fitr written based on my experiences. :

Riyadh is where I am living now with my husband where he work as medical profession. Here in Riyadh, they will decorate their's house as most Muslim does all over the world, have a new dress or styles, give chocolate parcel or money, they will visit some families called silaturahmi and will serve any guests with Arabic coffee and chocolates.

All muslim in Riyadh prayers Ied in the early morning at most of places designated at mosques and prayer grounds, with special arrangements made for the occasion including the creation of separate areas for women by placing improvised partitions between them and the men. Women pray wearing Abaya (Black Dress) and most men pray wearing Thob (Saudi's style for men) and some wear formal dress.

This is the picture of Abaya and Thob.

Bandung is where I was born and my family living now. In Bandung, they will do the same to decorate and clean their's house, they will visit some families in thier's hometown  called mudik  have new dress or styles called baju lebaran/baju bedug,  make some cookies like; kue nastar, kue kastangel, kue sagu, kue kacang, and many more, make foods that usually prepared during after and during Ied Al- Fitr like; chicken curry (Ayam Kari), Fried potatoes with balado spicy (Sambal Goreng Kentang), Chicken Satay (Sate Ayam).

All muslim in Indonesia prayers Eid Al-Fitr in the early morning at most of places designated at mosques and prayer grounds. They will wear new dresses/styles. Most of women pray wearing Mukena (White Long Hijab that cover all of your body) and Most of men pray wearing Baju Koko (Shirt for men that usually wear for Shalat).

This is the picture of Baju Koko and Mukena

In conclusion, the differences between Saudi and Indonesia to celebrate Ied Al-Fitr are first, the foods; in Saudi they will have Arabic coffee and chocolates to be served for guess while in Indonesia serve some cookies like kue nastar, kue kastangel, kue sagu, kue kacang, and many more, and second, the dress; in Saudi All women wear Abaya and some men wear Thob while in Indonesia Most Women wear Mukena (White Long Hijab that cover all of your body) and Most of men pray wearing Baju Koko (Shirt for men that usually wear for Shalat).

Due to the facts that we have different cultures, so we plan to mixes our celebration for Ied Al-Fitr here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. We decorated and cleaned our house as many Muslim do, we visited my husband's family in Riyadh, made some cookies and Indonesian also Saudi foods, brought some chocolates and candies, prayed in Indonesia Embassy Riyadh, and I wore mukena while my husband wore polo formal shirt with jeans pants.

These are some pictures shows about our mixes celebration.
